Spanish in the first few weeks

 How can we build a good community? 

We work at it!

Can we make work play?  

YES! 

Students start the year off by playing games that try to make each other laugh!

Some kids could not keep a straight face...though they tried. 

 Laughter and joy sets a good tone for our class. 

What makes you feel respected? 

Do the rules create a good environment?  

They should!  Rules should make a class feel cared for, known, and respected.  

It should promote the kind of environment that helps everyone feel safe and challenged.

Ask kids how el perro guardian or the watchdog get used in class. 

The Spanish classroom got a makeover! 
Currently, we have removed desks from the classroom.  

We're following the TPRS model set up which directs attention toward the action up front.

We removes barriers such as desks so kids closer,  feel free to speak 
and be more physically engaged in our conversations and storytelling.

The TPRS model essentially floods kids with unsheltered grammar 

(they're learning the past tense not just the present tense) while focusing a specific vocabulary.

(it's an intentional delivery of verbs and nouns most needed for oral fluency).

Students gain oral fluency through a 
flood 
of questions
and story development
that they help to create. 

Everyday, we are going a bit faster 

and they're expanding their sentence responses.  

Students choose jobs and everyone participates. 

At the end of each class, quick quizzes are given 

that help me and students know how well they understand the content while

more advanced students demonstrate their written fluency skills. 

It will be the way they preview reading vocabulary.  

Over the next few weeks, this structure will get more sophisticated. 

It's been a good and fun start!
