From Ms. Mauldin: Together We Sing
Thunder and Lightning students have been busy preparing for a big, musical month of May!
On Tuesday, 21st, the students will go to Carnegie Hall for a morning field trip. They will sit in the main auditorium of Carnegie Hall and perform with the St. Luke’s Orchestra - the pieces will include Come To Play, The Blue Danube and more. We will be leaving the school on a charter bus at 8:45, and then coming back by 12:30 to continue with the afternoon schedule. The dismissal is at the usual time. The students should bring regular snack and lunch as well.
It’s also almost time for the Middle School Spring Concert! On Thursday, May 23 at 7:00pm in the MSS gym, students in grades 4-8 will come together to present “Together We Sing,” a concert featuring every student in grades 4-8.
The concert will include “Sing, Sing, Sing” by Benny Goodman and Louis Prima as well as “Plink, Plank, Plunk” played The PROS. Grades 4 & 5 will play recorder and will sing “Tumekuja kuimba,” a Swahili song, “Oseh Shalom,” a Hebrew song and “The Storm is Passing Over.” You will also see waltz dancing!
Audience members can look forward to singing along with ukulele players in grades 6-8 as well as with the Middle School Worship Team. The Chorus will sing a set of songs centered around World War II. They will also sing a set of songs that will include South African music brought to us by our own Ms. Sutton as well as a few songs from the musical theatre and pop genres. There will also be appearances by many musical guests from the MSS community!
Music is a critical part of the arts curriculum at Mustard Seed School and we are proud that every student in grades 4-8 performs at the Spring Concert. It is one of the highlights of the year. This is a concert you won’t want to miss.
Here is some helpful information for parents:
1) ALL students should wear their spring concert T-shirts over blue jeans or solid dark colored pants (no shorts or ripped jeans). Shoes and jeans must adhere to the school dress code.
2) Pros should arrive at 6:00pm. Students in Chorus should arrive at 6:30pm. Service team members and and Thunder and Lightning should arrive at 6:45pm.
3) Parents and guests may enter the gym at 6:45pm. If it is raining, then parents may take a seat earlier than 6:45, but should keep cameras out of sight before 6:45pm and keep the flash off after 6:45pm. Phones should be silenced.
4) The concert will last a little more than an hour
To prepare for the concert:
1) Give your child some “down” time and a nutritious meal so they have energy and focus for the concert. The concert takes a lot of energy!
2) Be sure to allow yourself plenty of time to find parking if you are coming with a car.
