Who: Grades 6-8 (requirement for grade 6)
When: Sopranos will meet on Wednesdays from 3:15pm-4:30pm
and Altos will meet on Thursdays from 3:15pm-4:30pm
Where: Music Room
*Cost:  $200/yr for grades 7-8 -no cost for grade 6


PROS
Who: grades 5-8. Audition required.
When: Mondays 3:15-4:30
Where: Music Room
*Cost: $200/yr

High School Prep Support
Who: grade 8
When: Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:15-4:00. 
Where: 8th grade homeroom
No Cost

 Study Hall
Who: grades 4-5
When: Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:15-4:00 by invitation
Where: The Study on the 4th floor
No Cost
Drama Club
Who: Students in grades 4-8
When: Grades 4-5 will meet every Tuesday @3:15- 4:30
            Grades 6-8 will meet every Friday @3:15- 5:15
Where: MSS gym & Community Room
*Cost: $200/yr

Sign up forms will be sent home on the first day of school.

*Cost: $150 for MSS plus Hoboken fee ($35 for residents; $75 for non-residents)

Students studied the rules for possessive nouns.  The placement of that little apostrophe changes everything! Students created cartoons that demonstrate the difference between singular and plural possessives. Here are a couple things we noticed about their work: The students' drawings are creative. Each student's idea is unique. Students have been completing projects in math. Fourth grade students are ordering fractions on a number line.   The fifth graders are working hard, too. Fifth graders are learning good note taking skills and are using that skill to inform their understand of reciprocals and the inverse property. All of this is part of their study of fraction multiplication and division. Students went to free cone day!

More than One Way to Solve a Problem

Have you ever used the Egyptian method for large digit multiplication? How about the Mayan? Did you know there were different algorithms and methods for solving these types of problems? Fifth grade math students did some research and created displays on algorithms from around the world. Students have been refining and improving their accuracy and efficiency with the United States standard algorithm   During our course of study, the Investigations curriculum asks the students to use at least two ways to solve multi digit multiplication problems. Many have relied on the box method. Because of this study of world algorithms, we have seen the students pick up more strategies to bring to their mathematical problem solving.
