Looking For A Needle...
During the first six weeks in art, students are introduced to many of the materials in the art room.
For each material we learn the safe way to set up, create, and clean up. The fourth grade notice differences between the 3rd floor art room, more materials are available with more responsibility for clean up and we wear aprons to paint!
So far we have introduced drawing materials, paint, 3D construction, and textiles.
Students create a simple design using felt. This gives us the opportunity to focus on practicing our sewing skills.
Children with more sewing experience add extra details to their designs, working independently. They are also a valuable resource for their classmates who are newer to sewing.
It is a challenge to thread the needle, tie a knot, and keep the thread from falling out of the eye of the needle while we sewed. We are well practiced in rethreading needles!
