Thunder and Lightning FAQs
Moving up to the fourth floor comes with some changes. Your teaching team has put together a frequently asked questions, FAQ, post to kick off our year.
1. What is the drop off process?
Students come through the southeast door (the one closest to the church parking lot). The door opens at 8:10 a.m. and closes at 8:20 a.m. If students arrive after 8:20, they must use the main door and stairwell to come to the fourth floor.
2. What if my child is tardy?
Make sure they check in at the office before coming to the classroom.
3. What is the pick up process?
Students exit the northwest stairwell and can be picked up on the sidewalk by the school along 5th street, halfway between Clinton and Willow. Pick up time is from 3:10-3:20. After 3:20 students can be picked up in the main office.
4. What if I'm late, can my friend pick up my child?
If the friend is on your pick up list, sure. If not and you have texted or emailed your friend, we need to see that communication. You can also send a quick email to the three teachers. Mrs. McCallihan checks her email from after Worship until 3:20 for those types of emails.
5. Where do I pick up my child if it's raining?
Thunder and Lightning dismisses from inside our exit door which is the northwest door at 5th and Clinton.
6. What if my child has an activity after school?
Whatever the activity, and as long as it starts right after school, we will dismiss your child to that activity. However, if it starts later than 3:20, we will dismiss the child to the office or to you to be picked up.
7. Can my child self-dismiss?
Usually this is something that fifth graders do as the year progresses. Some fourth graders did it as well, however their caregiver was at the park/corner/down the street to receive them. There is no school supervision at the park after school so if your child self-dismisses to the park, they are under their own care. If you would like your child to self-dismiss, the office staff and teachers need a written/emailed note.
8. When is Worship for Middle School?
We meet at 2:30 in the Community Room. Worship ends at 2:50. You are very welcome at Worship!
9. When are birthdays celebrated in Worship?
Birthdays are celebrated in Worship on the last Wednesday of each month. Children born in that month are honored with a birthday book during that Worship. Middle school does birthdays a little different than Lower School. Usually there is a skit or song to honor the birthday folks, and then the books are handed out en masse. You are welcome to attend this Worship as well.
10. Can we send a birthday treat to school?
A small treat to celebrate your child's birthday is welcome. There are 42 students in the class and three teachers. Students usually share their treat during lunch. We appreciate it if you share your plan with the teachers so we don't have too many birthday treats in one day. Also abide by the food safety rules. If your child has a food allergy, you may want to send along an acceptable treat (like a box of cookies or something) that we can keep here for them to have on birthday treat days.
