Freckle Juice

I read Freckle Juice by Judy Blume. In the book, there is a kid named Andrew. He is jealous of another student in the class named Nicky. He is jealous because Nicky has freckles and Andrew doesn’t. A girl in his class named Sharon gives Andrew a ‘recipe’ for some juice that she says would give him freckles. Andrew wants freckles so he agrees to pay her 50 cents for the recipe. He goes home and makes the juice, but it never gave him freckles, it just made him sick. And the next day he felt better but he drew fake freckles on his face, and went to school with them. The teacher gives him a ‘recipe’ to get off the freckles, which is really just to wash his face. That is where the story ends.

I think it was silly that Andrew wanted to look like Nicky. He should have been happy with the way he looked and not try to change himself. I would recommend this book to people who like short easy to read books.

The BFG

Sophie couldn’t sleep. She lay still but as long as she tried she couldn’t fall asleep. This was probably the witching hour. Somebody told Sophie about this witching hour. She had been told the witching hour is where all the dark things come out from their hiding places and have the whole world to themselves.The moon beam was shining on her so brightly she decided to get out of her bed and close the window. When she was closing the window she saw something. It looked like a human except it was four times taller than the tallest human! This must be the witching hour, thought Sophie.

Could it be a giant? Suddenly, the figure turned and looked straight at Sophie. It must be a giant. The giant started walking toward her. She ran back to her bed, but the giant knew she was there and grabbed her out of her bed, and started to run to a place she didn’t know of. Sophie suddenly had the worst thought: maybe this giant took her so he could eat her for Breakfast. This feeling wasn’t comforting at all to Sophie, or anybody really.

It turned out the giant was really nice. However, he was living in a giant country with 9 mean giants that ate humans every night!! Sophie knew they had to do something about this. Finally, the giant aka the Big Friendly Giant(The BFG) agreed to help Sophie. They decided to tell the Queen about these human-eating giants. However, would the Queen of England ever believe them about this? The BFG can catch dreams and give them to whoever because his ears can hear 50 times louder than any other ears can. You see, dreams make music but only the littlest noise so only he can hear them with his giant ears. So, the BFG and Sophie made a dream about giants attacking humans and they planned to give to that dream to the Queen. At the beginning of the dream there was a little girl sitting on her windowsill. Sophie herself planned to sit on the windowsill at the end of the dream just like the little girl did in the Queen`s dream.

When the Queen`s dream was over, Sophie told her everything about the human-eating giants and the Big Friendly Giant. After a nice breakfast, the BFG lead them to giant country where all the giants were sleeping. They captured the giants and threw them in a pit where they could not eat humans. Well what were they fed you might ask? They were fed snozzcumbers. Snozzcumbers were terrible vegetable-like food. This is the only thing they could eat if they wanted to stay alive. Everything was great after that. So the BFG and Sophie lived happily ever after.

The Chocolate Touch

John Midas loves chocolate so much that he can't stop eating it. One day he went to a candy store and bought a special piece of chocolate. He ate it at night, when he was not supposed to. In the morning, while he was brushing his teeth, the toothpaste turned into chocolate! From then on everything he touched with his mouth turned into chocolate.

At first John loved this, but after a while he didn't like it so much. He started to feel sick. He walked back to the candy store and talked with the owner, who promised that by the time he got home everything would be back to norma. It was. John was relieved. He loved chocolate, but he learned that he did not want it ALL THE TIME.

I liked the book and would recommend it to a friend who asked me what they ought to read.

Harriet the spy

This book is about a little girl named Harriet M. Welsh. Harriet is cared by a woman named Ole Golly. Harriet can be a little bit rude and can write some pretty mean things. One night Harriet meets a friend of Golly's. They take Harriet out for a movie (even though they weren't supposed to) and by the time they got home Harriet's parents were already back. They feel they need to fire Golly, but decide to take it back. That's when they find out that Golly is leaving too get married.

If a 4-6 year old were to read this, I don't they should read the whole book because there are some words that parents wouldn't like to hear. Every page you turn Harriet gets more and more mature. I give this book 5 stars.

The Borrowers

This book is about a family of 3. The father is the borrower, The mom is the cook, and Arrietty is just the sasy little girl who writes in her diary. One day her father goes out to borrow and doesn't come back for a long time. Her mom gets the worries that it's her fault. She has a great reason to get the worries the tallest member is about 1 inch tall. Finally he comes home to tell his family "he's been seen." A few months later her parents figure that they should take Arrietty borrowing. The father says "Stay right there." She disobeyed her father and goes out the garden to see great big blue eyes staring at her. This boy that saw her starts a conversation and asks her to read to him. When he goes to get the book Arriettys father calls her. When the boy comes out she's gone. I want to tell you the end but I love this book and recommend you reading it. I give it 5 stars

Freckle Juice

I think it is funny when Sharon tells Andrew she has freckles on her nose in the beginning and at the end she told Nicky Lane none of her family had freckles! I feel like Nicky and Andrew should switch faces because Nicky hates freckles but has them and Andrew loves them but doesn't have a single one. It's funny that one of the reasons Andrew wants freckles is if his mom is checking his neck she only sees freckles. I do not think freckle juice would taste good because it has stuff like grape juice and ketchup. I think it was a very clever book.
