Stranded by Jeff Probst

Stranded is a book about children stuck on an island. I like how author chooses to make things sound realistic like when Buzz says they should make a signal fire. I think this book is mostly about how the kids survive alone, but it's also about how they bond. I think someone who likes adventure would enjoy reading this book.

The Whipping Boy By Sid Fleischman

This book is about survival. Prince Horace is very selfish. He can't be whipped so he has a boy who is whipped whenever the Prince does something bad. The Whipping Boy’s name is Jemmy. The Prince runs away with Jemmy. They run into two murderers who kidnap them. Jemmy doesn't like the Prince but throughout the book they grow to like each other.

I enjoyed reading this book. It is fit for grades 2-4. This book isn't that challenging. It has old terms and the writing is different so it might be hard for a younger person to understand. I think this book was a good read. It had interesting twists just at the right time. I'm pretty sure this book is placed in medieval times because of the way people speak. I would recommend this to people who like a short story, old times, or people who like friendships.

The BFG by Roald Dahl

The BFG is about a girl named Sophie, who lives in an orphanage. Every night Sophie stays up late reading. One night when Sophie is reading, she spots a giant on the street. The giant also spots Sophie. The giant then grabs Sophie and her blanket, and takes Sophie to giant country.

Back at giant country Sophie befriends the giant. Sophie soon learns the giant's name is the BFG. Sophie and the BFG go on many adventures in giant country, like dream catching. But there are dangers in giant country such as bloodthirsty giants, who will take any chance they get to bully the BFG. So Sophie and the BFG go back to London to tell the Queen of England of their problem. The Queen of England then digs a big hole and puts the sleeping giants in the hole. Sophie and the BFG are saved and all their troubles are over!

I would recommend this book to any Roald Dahl fan. (4.5 Rating by ASV)

The BFG all starts with a little girl named Sophie. She was an orphan. One night she lay awake listening to the sounds outside. She looked out the window to see a giant creature coming toward her. She was captured. Sophie learned to know that the giant was so nice. The other giants were the meanest creatures Sophie had ever seen. They ate humans every night, not like the BFG. BFG stands for big friendly giant. The BFG stirs up dreams, and goes into the human world to spread the dreams to little kids. The BFG and Sophie decide to stop the mean giants, so the BFG stirs up a dream that has all the details to tell the Queen of England what’s happening. The BFG and Sophie went to the Queen’s castle one night and gave her the dream. She woke up in the morning to find Sophie sitting in her windowsill.The rest of the story is too long to explain, but it all ends happily.

At first, I didn’t like this book but I grew to enjoy it. This book is best for grades 3 - 5. It could be challenging for someone younger because it has lots of detail. This book was very adventurous and imaginative. This is my first time reading this book, but I would definitely read it again. I would recommend this book to someone who likes adventure, fantasy or Roald Dahl.

My Life in Dog Years by Gary Paulsen

My life in dog years is about Gary Paulsen and some of the many extraordinary dogs that he has owned. In every chapter Gary writes to the world about one special dog in his life. For example in the first chapter he writes about Cookie, the sled dog that saved his life. In the last chapter he writes about Josh the brilliant Border Collie! Paulsen’s first dog was Snowball that he had as a boy in the Philippines. Then there was Ike who came to him as a hunting dog.

As a dog lover My life in dog years is now one of my favorite books! I would recommend this book to any dog lover! I would give this book a 5 star rating!

Stranded by Jeff Probst

Stranded is about two families whose parents got divorced. One was Carter and Jane's and the other was Vanessa and Buzz's. Carter and Jane's dad later married Vanessa and Buzz's mom. On their honeymoon, the kids went on a sailing trip with their Uncle Dexter and his first mate Joe. Suddenly a huge storm came out of nowhere and Joe and Dexter were floating away on life rafts that the kids couldn't reach. They were shipwrecked on a random island with no food or drinks. In the middle of the night, their boat started floating in the ocean because the tide came in and they had to abandon ship. Will they survive?

One thing I liked about Stranded was that it was very realistic. I think Buzz was smart, like when he made a signal fire or collected water by rearranging the mast. Carter was the same age as Buzz but he didn't watch as much TV and was very muscular but he made a lot of stupid decisions like waking a wild boar! Vanessa was 13 and in charge. Not a very wise choice. She said they should split up, so Carter and Jane went to look for water while Buzz and Vanessa fixed the satellite. But Jane and Carter started drowning so when they got out of the water it started hailing so they went in a cave and Carter woke the wild boar and they ran to the ship which was shoved into the water by the boar. Then the tide came in and it sunk.

Jane was nine years old and she was also really smart so she liked to brag a lot. Like a LOT! She also wanted to be a reporter and she kept her camera handy which was very helpful.
