Poetry in the Mini Term
In literacy class during mini term, students are studying poetry. They have been exposed to various poets and are thinking, writing, and drawing their thoughts and feelings about the poems they read.
At the same time, students are studying the poetry of Langston Hughes. They already completed a webquest to learn a little about his life and time period. Next, students will work with a partner to choose and memorize one of his poems. Finally, each student will write a poem in the style of Langston Hughes.
Their work will be shared at a poetry slam on Tuesday, December 20th from 9:00am-9:45am in the Lightning Room. Students will recite their memorized poem and display their own poem. Parents are invited to attend.
