“In fairytales, witches always wear silly black hats and ride on broomsticks. But this is not a fairytale. This is about REAL WITCHES.” When a boy’s Grandmother tells him about witches and how to distinguish them, he immediately gets intrigued. One day, when the Boy is building a tree house, he sees a woman coming towards him. Then he realizes that the woman is a witch! He remembers his Grandmother telling him that there are a lot of witches in Norway but he never thought that he would meet one in person! He screams for his grandmother but when she gets there, the witch is gone. Back at their house, the Grandmother asks him to tell her everything that happened, and the little boy does. For the next few days, his grandmother doesn’t let him out of the house. He has to play inside. One day, after supper, his grandmother tells him that she read his parents’ will and it said that they wanted him to go to a school in England. That meant that the boy and his grandmother would have to move to England. When they are in their new house, the boy’s grandmother says they can go to Norway for their next vacation. But three weeks before vacation, the boy’s grandmother gets sick. The doctor explains that after the grandmother heals they can go on vacation, but not to Norway. The doctor recommends going to the south side of England. Before they know it, they are in a hotel room in the south side of England.
One day, the boy goes into a big empty quiet ballroom to teach his mice some tricks. After a few minutes in there, he sees a bunch of women coming into the room. Suddenly, he realizes that the women are actually witches. As he looks at all of the witches, he notices that one of them is standing up in front of them all. She starts telling them about a potion that turns children into mice. She brings in a child to demonstrate. The witch gives him the potion and he turns into a mouse. When the witches exit the room, one of them sees the boy! All the witches pick him up and turn him into a mouse using the potion. The boy quickly scampers out of the room to his grandmother. He tells her everything that happened and they make a plan to stop the Witches from turning any more children into mice. Will they succeed, or will all the children in the world get turned into mice? In this book her father has been abducted and Mrs. Flora, an elderly lady claims to have seen a ghost. With Nancy’s friend Helen’s help she figures out lots of things. For example, they discovered that her dad was captured by a man named Willy Wharton who was also pretending to haunt Mrs. Flora’s house so that she would sell the property to him. Also they figure out that a closet leads to a listening post that the “ghost” went to, to listen to Nancy’s plans. Because Nancy is such a good sleuth, her dad is found, the “ghost” is captured and they discover Mrs. Flora’s house is not haunted. I wonder what would happen if the ghost was not found? If the ghost was not found I think Ms. Flora would continue to be scared so it’s a good thing Nancy found the ghost. I like his book because it is very suspenseful and interesting.

If you enjoy adventurous stories about mice, then you will appreciate reading The Tale of Despereaux. Kate DiCamillo is the author of this book. The interesting illustrations were drawn by Timothy B. Ering. This novel is fiction, because it is about a talking mouse. The Tale of Despereaux is a fantasy, because it contains many fantastic elements such as a princess, a king, and a mouse community. I was excited to read this book, because the cover reminded me of a fairytale.
The setting of this book is the kingdom of Dor. The kingdom of Dor is a made up place. This is a medieval kingdom. The king and the princess live in a castle. The castle is beautiful but underneath the castle is a dark and scary dungeon. Around the castle are villages and farms. I think the author chose this setting because she has a passion for medieval history. I think the setting was a good choice for this book because it fits with the characters.
The main characters in this story are Despereaux, Roscuro, Princess Pea, and Miggery Sow. Despereaux is a brave and small mouse. He has really big ears. He is in love with the Princess Pea. He is also very interested in light. Roscuro is a curious rat. He is interested in light, just like Despereaux. Princess Pea is a brave and loving person. Princess Pea is also very beautiful. Miggery Sow is a dim witted maid in the castle. She is not pretty and her ears are shaped like cauliflower. My favorite character was Despereaux, because he is not afraid to stand up for what he believes in. I also admire him because he has a good heart.

I enjoyed reading this book! I like adventurous and mysterious books. I also enjoy fantasy. At the beginning of the book I felt sad when Despereaux was sent to the dungeon. At the end of the book I felt happy, because it was a happy ending. I would recommend this book to my friends who like reading adventure books. I would recommend this book, because it is a fairytale that really makes you think.

When all four of the go in Santa gives them weapons to fight the white witch with Aslan, the giant. They won and became kings and queens. What I liked about the book was that Santa gave out weapons because he doesn't normally give out weapons.

One day Despereaux heard some beautiful music, he moved closer and closer until he found himself at the feet of the king. The king was playing a beautiful song. The king thought that Despereaux was a bug, but he was a mouse. Then they kept arguing about it. After that Despereaux got sent to the dungeon because he disobeyed all of the mouse rules, and there laid all the disgusting rats. The dungeon was perfect for them because it was pitch black. In the dungeon Despereaux met a guy that told Despereaux a love story. Despereaux was in love, so that’s why the guy told Despereaux a story about love. The story was about the king. The king was in love with the queen and he loved her with all his heart. So, one day the queen was eating soup. When she took a sip a rat popped up in the soup and the queen died. After that happened they banned soup and rats from the castle. The dungeon keeper lit a candle so that Despereaux can see. The dungeon keeper was also telling Despereaux that only he and the rats can move around the dungeon because he had a string attached to his ankle that allowed him to find his way back and therats were able to see in the dark.
One day Despereaux woke up and his tail was cut off and the dungeon keeper was dead! It was too late one of the rats convinced Meg to bring the princess to the dungeon. Despereaux heard about this and went to the thread master and got a needle and red thread and went straight to the dungeon in search of the princess. But first he came across the cook that gave Despereaux some soup, but he thought she would kill him. Then he left to the dungeon with the thread and needle and a full stomach. Despereaux tied the red thread to his waist and went down the dark dungeon. When the rats found the thread they knew it could only mean one thing…a mouse was coming! Despereaux shook with fear but kept moving to find the princess. One rat led Despereaux to the princess but tried to kill him before he reached her. Eventually Despereaux found the princess and they lived happily ever after.

The first way Despereaux was brave was when he had to go and save the princess and had to get passed the cook in the kitchen. Despereaux was brave enough to get passed the cook even though the cook might see him. Another way Despereaux was brave was when he went to the dungeon because he wasn’t obeying the laws of the mouse community and was sent to the dungeon to be killed. Another way that Despereaux was brave was when he heard beautiful music and he couldn’t help but come closer to the king and the princess. And then before he knew it, he was sitting at the foot of the king. The very last way Despereaux was brave was when he was in the dungeon with no thread and a rat named Botticelli walked up to him and starting asking him some questions. Despereaux was scared and not persuasive at first but then he got brave and found the princess! Would you be able to do all those things if you were a mouse born with big ears and weighed only 2 ounces?

Greg earns money by shoveling snow, making beds, doing the dishes and laundry, selling toys, comics, and many other things. When the principal of his school, Mrs. Davenport stops his selling business, he decides to sell comics instead. His comics are all around the size of a credit card and are 16 pages long. Greg continues writing, illustrating and selling his comics until… His enemy at school, Maura Shaw starts selling her own books, the Eeensy Teensy Unicorn books. When Greg hears about this, he gets furious. But as the days go by, Greg realizes that this could be a good thing.
Finally, Greg and Maura start a business together and sell lots of comic books. But just as business starts to speed up, Mrs. Davenport shuts their business down again. After a few days, Greg and Maura realize that it isn’t fair that the book clubs can sell comic books but their comics, The Chunky Comics cannot be sold. They decide to go to the School Committee and talk about this business. With the help of their math teacher, Mr. Zenotopulous (which for obvious reasons is called Mr. Z), they go to a School Committee meeting. After a lot of professional talking, the School Committee allows Greg and Maura to sell their comic books in a little shop in the corner of the cafeteria. Would Greg and Maura ever have made a comic selling business if Maura hadn’t copied Greg?

Stanley, the main character, was sent to Camp Green Lake (which doesn't actually have a lake in it) because he stole shoes from a famous sports player. The reader finds out in the middle of the book that he didn’t actually steal them. Camp Green Lake is a camp that's in the desert and there’s no water. People get the choice to going to Camp Green Lake instead of going to jail.
The campers wake up early every morning to dig holes. The hole has to be as deep and as wide as the shovel. On Stanley’s first day he got the shortest shovel. Every shovel is 5ft, but one of them is 4.5ft. At the end of the day, they get a shower token to take a shower. Each token only gives you one minute in the shower. You can use it that night or you can save them up and then have a long shower.
Each character in the book has a funny name or nicknames such as Mr. Sir, Zero, Caveman, and a bunch of others. When Stanley first arrived at Camp Green Lake he got the name Barf Bag, but he eventually got a much more pleasant name.
The book has a mystery of why they're digging. Over time Stanley finds out why they're digging. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes reading. Personally, I loved it.

For example, he would not eat the glue off the binding of books like the other mice in the castle. Instead, Despereaux would read the book. He likes to read books about knights rescuing princesses. One day, Despereaux heard a sound that sounded like honey. He followed the sound and discovered it was actually the King playing music to his daughter Princess Pea. Despereaux was enchanted by the lovely music and came out and let the princess touch him. The King said Despereaux was not allowed to be with the princess because he was a rodent. As the King shooed him away, he shouted these words to Princess Pea “I honor you” which he read from a book. Soon his brother found out that Despereaux let a human touch him and told the other mice. They decided that Despereaux had to be sent to the dungeon. As Despereaux was being sent to the dungeon, his mother said, “Adieu.” It was very emotional for me when Despereaux’s mother bid him farewell.

There are four books in this novel. The second book is about a rat named Roscuro, the third book is about a girl named Miggery and the last book is when all characters come together in one story. This author writes in a unique way that I have not come across before. It feels like I was reading three separate books but in the last book, all the characters and storyline come together. If you have the hardcover copy, the edge of the paper is fringed and rough which makes it feel like a special one-of-a-kind book from a long time ago.

When Matilda was five and a half, her parents finally realize that Matilda needs to go to school. Matilda had a brilliant teacher named Ms. Honey and a joyful friend named Lavender. When Ms. Honey would ask a question, Matilda would know the answer. On the second day at school during recess, Matilda and Lavender met an older girl who told Matilda and Lavender about the terrible things that can happen in the school. She told them about Miss Trunchbull and the Trunchbull’s chokey. Right when the older girl finished talking, the three saw the Trunchbull took a girl by the pigtails and threw her to the other side of the playground. Matilda then discovered she has a new surprising talent and found a way to use it to help her classmates and herself. At times the story takes a different turn which is a little unexpected and then it smoothes out. There are also exaggerated parts in the book, like the punishments by the mean Miss Trunchbull, that makes this book humorous. I find Matilda brave that she stands up to the bullying headmistress, and she is not afraid to ask for things she really wants.

The book Matilda is about this girl that is a genius, who has parents that did not appreciate or even notice her smartness. Her speech was perfect at the age of one and a half and she could read newspapers at the age of three. When she was four, she would go to the public library and read books like Great Expectations, Oliver Twist and Nicholas Nickleby. When Matilda was five and a half, her parents finally realize that Matilda needs to go to school. Matilda had a brilliant teacher named Ms. Honey and a joyful friend named Lavender. When Ms. Honey would ask a question, Matilda would know the answer. On the second day at school during recess, Matilda and Lavender met an older girl who told Matilda and Lavender about the terrible things that can happen in the school. She told them about Miss Trunchbull and the Trunchbull’s chokey. Right when the older girl finished talking, the three saw the Trunchbull took a girl by the pigtails and threw her to the other side of the playground.
