AROUND THE WORLD IN 100 YEARS FROM HENRY THE NAVIGATOR TO MAGELLAN

Meet ten unafraid explores who went on a voyage in search of gold and spices. These men (Prince Henry the Navigator, Bartholomew Diaz, Christopher Columbus, Vasco Da Gama, Pedro Alvares Cabral, John Cabot, Amerigo Vespucci, Juan Ponce de Leon, Vasco Nunez de Balboa, and Ferdinand Magellan) were all in search of a way to get from Africa to Asia. They all had different ways of getting there. Unfortunately, only one of them (Ferdinand Magellan) got close. In search of this new world many of them died brutally by the natives that were already there. Do you think you’re brave enough to do what they did?

The Girl Who Loved Wild Horses
I personally thought this book was amazing for a picture book (although when I read it off of my summer reading list I thought it was a chapter book.) Here`s little bits of the book that will give you an idea about it: There was a girl who loved horses. One day she fell asleep in some fields with the herd, suddenly a storm came and the whole herd raced away!
Unfortunately the girl grabbed onto a horse and she got lost. "At least she still has the horses,” I thought hopefully. The next day she met the leader of the wild horses. He protected her until one day hunters from the girls tribe came and found the girl! They told the tribe about the girl.
Some of the people came to get her and finally the horse that the girl was riding on tripped and they got her. The girl grew sick and nobody knew what to do so they decided to ask her. She said "I need to be with the wild horses.” Eventually they invited the wild horses over and the girl left with them. Every year she brought a colt to her parents. One year she did not come to bring a colt. Hunters saw a beautiful mare next to the leader of the wild horses and they believed the girl had finally become a wild horse. I thought the picture were very detailed and pretty. In the end I felt like the girl was always meant to be a horse.

The Tale of Despereaux
It all begins with a mouse named Despereaux . Despereaux is not like other mice. He loves reading, music and Princess Pea. He was born with his eyes open and overlarge ears. One of my favorite things about Despereaux is that even if things seem hopeless he`ll keep on going with a happy heart. Chriascuro (call him Roscuro) is a rat that lives in the castle dungeon. When he has an accident with Greg the jailor he becomes fascinated in light. In the book it seemed like Roscuro was feeling depressed and at the end his actions it made it seem he was taking pity on himself. Another thing about Roscuro, he killed Princess Pea`s mother, the queen. The queen died of shock. Miggery Sow was sold by her father to a man who clouted her ear a lot. Mig wanted to be a princess real bad. Eventually she became a servant girl for Princess Pea. Not like Roscuro she didn’t feel pity on herself but I feel pity on her.
At one part around the middle Despereaux gets sent to the dungeon because he communicated with a human, Princess Pea. And around the end of the middle Greg the jailor helps Despereaux come out of the dungeon, but Despereaux goes back down to the dungeon just to save Princess Pea!
The main plot of this story kind of goes like this: Roscuro tricks Mig into bringing Princess Pea into the dungeon. Roscuro wanted to show Princes Pea how dark his life really is. At the very end, Despereaux saves Princess Pea and everybody lives happily ever after!
If I were Despereaux when he was being judged about being brought to the dungeon, I would`ve done whatever I could to not go to the dungeon. Some of my favorite parts are when Princess Pea and Despereaux are together in the same place. Here`s what I think of this book: It`s a fun book full of surprises new characters and at the end you feel like every part of the book that`s separated comes together like a jigsaw puzzle.

Black Star Bright Dawn

Bright Dawn is an Eskimo girl. Her father is named Bartok. One day Bartok takes Bright dawn to hunt with him. Bartok almost loses his life and is never the same. They move to Ikuma eventually and Mr. Weiss and Mr. Gibson two men that live in Ikuma that pick the racers for the Iditarod from there town invites Bartok to be in the Iditarod. Bartok says, yes. While Bartok`s training he bumps into a tree and falls off his sled and breaks his shoulder.
Mr. Weiss and Mr. Gibson ask Bright Dawn and you probably already guessed what she says… yes. Her adventure starts out with a man who has raced the Iditarod before but eventually she realizes that she has to race her own race. Her whole adventure is like a trail with bumps, crevices, and sometimes days when the snow melts but no matter what she keeps on pushing forward. When I finished this it took me a straight hour to process everything that happened because it was amazing! It is an interesting, so real and unexplainable story. If you’re a dog and adventure lover I recommend this book a lot.
