On Wednesday, February 4, Thunder and Lightning traveled to the Museum of Mathematics in the city.
While there the students enjoyed a workshop on knot theory and string theory. Students learned that there are more than 100 different types of knots. In the workshop, students from MIT explained three of the knots--the un-knot, the trefoil, and the figure 8.

After working with rope, students worked in groups to tie themselves in knots.

Following the workshop, students explored the two floors of the museum where they played games with robots, solved life size puzzles with an interactive floor, turned themselves into fractals, rode a square-wheeled tricycle, and worked as partners to pull a boat across a sea of shapes.

On our way back, we paused to appreciate one of the art installations.
