Farm Trip 2014
The Farm Trip is an event that has been a part of the Mustard Seed School fourth grade experience for more than 25 years. The trip has transformed greatly during those years--it used to be at the end of October, students used to stay at the homes of families instead of a camp, and fifth graders used to have a separate overnight trip.
Although this trip continues to evolve, our goal remains the same: for all the students to experience a new environment where people live and work in very different ways from the ways we live and work. Students visit two farms, attend a service at an Anabaptist church, and enjoy a meal with Mennonite families. They stay at a fantastic camp with two large play areas and a full-size gym.
Last year, when the Philadelphia portion of the trip was cancelled due to the government shutdown, we discovered that for both fourth and fifth grade students, a shorter trip was the wisest choice. So this year the trip will be two days and one night for the entire Thunder and Lightning class.
Students and chaperones will leave Mustard Seed at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, October 8th. All students will return to the school on Thursday, October 9th, by 3:30 p.m. There will be a Read-All-Day on Friday, October 10th. However, if you feel your child is tired or physically taxed, please feel free to keep them home on that Friday.
Next Monday, you will receive a link to a field trip approval form and a health form. Please complete each by Friday, October 3rd.
Lastly, we are in need of two female chaperones and one male chaperone. If you are able to volunteer, please email the Thunder and Lightning team.

In November, we head to the Meadowlands with the entire Upper School to enrich our study of ecosystems. Other field trips include National Museum of the American Indian, MoMath, MoMA, and the HighLine.
